Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities:

GROUP WORKDAYS

Help to keep our preserves in good order! Volunteers help in litter cleanups, boundary postings, trail maintenance, invasive plant inventory and removal, and other activities. The work projects are normally one-half to one-full day in length, on weekdays and weekends, and occur periodically as-needed throughout the year. Leadership is provided by a staff member or trained volunteer; no prior training is necessary. For more information, email Alex or call 518-644-9673.

STEWARDSHIP AND TRAIL HOSTS

Preserve Stewards are valuable additions to our staff at the LGLC. These dedicated volunteers make long-term commitments to a preserve, using their time, energy, and love of the outdoors to check and maintain boundaries, trails, trail registers, and control invasive species. Training is provided, depending on the needs of the preserve and the person.

If physically managing trails isn’t for you, perhaps you’d be interested in being a Trail Host. The primary goal of our Trail Hosts is to greet visitors and provide information about the trail and the LGLC. This is a fun way to interact with the public and share your own love of the lake’s trails.

We are also training volunteers to help monitor hemlocks for signs of hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA), an invasive insect that can infest and kill hemlocks. More info here.

OFFICE VOLUNTEERS

These critical volunteers are contacted on an as-needed basis to help out with mailings, answering phones, organizing files, and other indoor projects. Many of our office volunteers are part of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Warren/Washington Counties. If you’re a member of RSVP, be sure to let them know you’d like to help the LGLC!

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

We have a need for talented volunteers in the fields of illustration, writing, photography, computer programming, forestry, surveying, carpentry, botany, and even law. These volunteers are documented for future reference in the LGLC office and are called upon when special projects arise within their specific area of expertise.

SPECIAL EVENTS

The LGLC is looking for volunteers to help with special events. Events range from evening galas to environmental education to the Hike-A-Thon. If you have a talent that can help the LGLC in these or other special events, please help us by volunteering your valued skills.

NEXTGENERATION COMMITTEE

The LGLC’s NextGen Committee is a group of young adults who are passionate about protecting the land and the lake and are committed to organizing innovative and engaging events for the Conservancy and for the communities surrounding Lake George.

LGLC’s annual Amy’s Adventure Race for the Lake was spearheaded by the NextGen committee, and continues to be organized and run by this passionate group. The committee also puts on other events such as the Summer Solstice Soiree, which provide opportunities to engage with the community and raise funds for special projects.

If you are interested in getting involved with the NextGen Committee, contact Giulia Casella at 518-644-9673 or email gcasella@lglc.org.
