Paddle for Birds & More, @ Ti LaChute River, Sat June 6 4:45pm – 8:30pm

Join us for an evening paddle launching from Ticonderoga’s Bicentennial Park on to the LaChute River. This trip will be led by Licensed Guide and Ornithologist Alan Belford.

Learn about the natural history and ecology of the area, all while enjoying a beautiful evening out on the water as the sun sets. This moderate paddle will lead you through the LaChute river with views of Fort Ticonderoga and the marsh that opens into Lake Champlain. As we paddle along, Alan will provide commentary about the animals, birds and plants that we observe.

Registration is $15. Register online to claim your spot.

Please bring your own boat and personal flotation device.

  • Bring your own vessel (kayak, canoe, paddle board)
  • We will put our vessels in ourselves.
  • Bring and wear your PFD
  • Due to the nature of this program, please leave dogs at home. Thank you!

The canoe and kayak launch is across the river from Bicentennial Park in Ticonderoga. From downtown, head east on Montcalm Street, turning left at Tower Avenue, crossing the river to the first right-hand turn at Rogers Street. The driveway down to the launch is immediately on your right.

This is the lower part of the river, downstream from the beautiful falls in Ticonderoga’s Bicentennial Park. After the dramatic drop at the falls, the river slows down to make its way to Lake Champlain via Fort Ticonderoga.

We will travel as far as we can before sun sets depending on the current “current conditions” of the La Chute River. This portion of the La Chute River is an easy paddle with lots of scenery and wildlife. The slight current is excellent for a leisurely paddle with plenty of opportunities for admiring the scenery. Abundant plant life on both banks makes for a quiet, secluded paddle. Farther downstream, the river eventually expands into a marshy area as it nears Lake Champlain, with Fort Ticonderoga uphill on the northern bank.
